A Groundwater Engineering Lab is a specialized facility designed for the quantitative study of fluid flow through porous media. It serves as an important link between theoretical hydrogeology and practical geotechnical engineering by providing a controlled setting to simulate and analyze subsurface water flow conditions. The lab primarily focuses on understanding the interaction between the lithosphere and hydrosphere. It investigates how water is stored, moves, and interacts within the pore spaces of soil and rock. By combining concepts from environmental science, hydrology, and geotechnical engineering, the lab helps address key issues such as sustainable water supply, movement of contaminants, and the stability of structures influenced by pore water pressure.
The intention of developing the Groundwater Engineering Lab is to provide a quick, easy, and visual way for students to begin experimenting with groundwater engineering concepts. Typically, students can understand and gain knowledge from groundwater engineering lab experiments through a virtual mode. This virtual lab helps students quickly grasp the concepts before actually conducting the experiments. It enables students to develop a prior understanding of how to carry out the experiments and learn about them effectively.
