Introduction
Welcome to the Manufacturing Processes (Foundry & Casting) Virtual Simulation Lab. Casting is a manufacturing process in which molten metal is poured into a pre-designed mould cavity and then left to solidify. Final solidified product of this process is known as casting which needs various post-processing operations. Using this Virtual simulation lab students will be able to visualize and simulate various casting experiments taught in the university, on his/her computer.
- Students will be able to: Readily identify all the components and function of a mould with their proper arrangement.
- Students will be able to: Observe the formation of gating system stepwise in drag and cope respectively.
- Students will be able to: Pour the molten metal into the pouring basin and observe the flow of the metal throughout the gating system.
- Students will be able to: Study different types of common casting defects that are generated and get to know a possible solution for every defect.
- Students will be able to: Rationally answer every question related to the process of sand casting.
- To study and observe various stages of casting through demonstration of the sand casting process.
- To perform strength tests on sands.
- To determine the percentage of clay present in base sand.
- To determine the permeability number of green sand, core sand and raw sand.
- To find the distribution of sand grains using a set of sieves and obtain the average grain fineness number.
